Scholarships, internships to help young Kashmir journalists understand niceties of field : PCI | KNO

Chairman, Press Council of India (PCI) Justice (R) C K Prasad has said that the students of journalism studying in various media institutions in Kashmir should be provided opportunities to visit national capital for internships so that they can have better understanding of working journalism.

Director Information, Muneer-ul-Islam, Joint Director Information (Hqr), Abdul Majid Zargar, Deputy Director Information (PR), Sheikh Zahoor and other concerned were also present during the interaction programme.

Justice (R) C K Prasad was speaking during the interaction programme with the journalism students of Kashmir being organized by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations at Media Complex, here today.

Addressing the media students, Justice (R) C K Prasad said that the PCI has felt the need for coming up with some special scholarships and internship programmes for young pass out of media institutions to go outside State to get the working experience in their field of journalism. The Jammu and Kashmir media institutions should get more visiting faculty from outside state to give a broader perspective to future journalists, he added.

He said that more and more journalists and media professionals should be encouraged to visit Kashmir to give all aspects of coverage for the rest of the country.

Chairman PCI has appealed to the working journalists and the media students especially to come forward and write to PCI for any of their grievances. In the past, PCI has received very less number of complaints from the journalists, editors and owners of media organization from the state and PCI has itself taken Suo-motto cognizance of the reports published in the media and act accordingly, Justice (R) C K Prasad said.

The members of PCI including S N Sinha, C K Nayak, Prakash Dubey, Bipin Newar, Prajanand Chaudhri and Sondeep Shankar also spoke on the occasion and shared their experiences working as journalist with various national media organizations.

During the interaction, the members also took questions from the budding journalists.

On the occasion, PCI members said that budding journalists are the future of journalism in the Country and urged them to better prepare themselves so that they can leave a positive mark on the society. They said that journalists are muckrakers of the society and as such huge responsibility lies on their shoulders to present facts on the ground.
